More Wellbeing at Work with SCHŌNE

Being Monday, it seems appropriate to talk about Wellbeing at Work. Even more important this year because most of us are getting back to the workplace and abandoning our WFH routines.

Here are some of the main sources of anxiety relating to this:

  • Returning to a potentially infectious office space.
  • Having perfected WFH, it just doesn't feel right being in the office when one can continue to work remotely, avoid chances of infection, and still be very productive while wearing their favourite joggers.
  • Introverts who dread small talk and crowded offices, have a particularly hard time. Being back is exhausting for them and not because of the workload, but the increased social interaction.
  • Some workers have found their workspace reorganised to fit around safety needs, which aren't necessarily coinciding with employee's comfort.

Here are some suggestions to help you overcome anxiety related to being back in the workplace and improve your current situation.

  • Check with your employer or line manager that health and safety measures are put in place and safe behaviour is followed by everyone. Try and focus on the positive aspects of being back with your work tribe, after so many months of WFH may be nice to resume the banter and seeing your colleagues every day.
  • Discuss your concerns with your line manager and see if it is possible to agree some flexible work options, such as changing your hours so you don’t have to be on public transport at peak times, or if you can have a hybrid arrangement where you can still WFH a couple of day a week and be in the office the rest of the time.
  • WFH might have been great and felt safer, however you probably didn’t move as much and returning to your pre-pandemic habits may help you to get back in shape.
  • Accept that changing back to your pre-pandemic routines may be challenging for the first few weeks, just as it was adapting to the WFH lifestyle. Be confident that after a while you will feel comfortable again and you just need some time to adjust.
  • Create some new comforting rituals to make your day at work more pleasant such as taking your favourite book with you and reading a few pages at lunchtime, or bringing your schōne diffuser or room spray with you and having them on your desk. You’ll be amazed at how effective essential oils are to improve your mood, relax you and help you to get rid of stress and focus on your work.
